FARMERS’ UNION

* SOUTH TARANAKI PROVINCIAL EXECUTIVE. MONTHLY MEETING. ' The monthly meeting of the South Taranaki provincial executive of the Farmers’ Union, held 1 at Hawera toclay ancl presided over by Mr El. J. Betts, was attended by IS delegates. The general secretary of the New Zealand Farmers’ Union (Colonel J. Row) wrote inviting discussion on the advisability of advocating abolition of the protection of stoats, weasels and ferrets. —Tt was unanimously decided that- the protection should be removed.

COUNTY ROADS VISIBILITY. A, lengthy discussion ensued on the question of bad visibility on road interesections and acute bends and it was resolved to forward to the. local bodies concerned the following list of localities in which it is desirable that hedges and trees should be lowered and signboards removed : Ball-Main Roads, Sheet Road (near Te Ngutu factory), Whakamara-Ohangai Roads, Waihi-Glover Roads, Turuturu-G'lover Roads, Waihi-South Roads, Auroa railway station.

ADDRESSES ON PIG INDUSTRY. The secretary (Mr E. K. Cameron) reported that in response to hits circular on the subject arrangements had been made for delivery of addresses, by Mr Gorringe, relative, to tlie pi" industry, at Matapu, Bit ham, Okaiawa, Tokaora, Whakamara, Opunake, Mangatokij and Ivaponga.

WOMEN’S TRAINING INSTITUTE.

The Presbyterian Women’s Training Institute wrote asking for sympathetic assistance and forwarding details of their teaching system in Dunedin schools. —Mr J. Cocker undertook to furnish the executive with a report on the subject.

SOUTH ISLAND PRODUCE. The secretary of the Southland provincial executive of the Farmers’ Union wrote asking for particulars of wharfage rates on oats at Wanganui, Patea, New Plymouth and Waitara for the purpose of aiding comprehensive inquiries into the shipment of produce from the South Island to the North Island, ’l’lie writer understood' that in Taranaki particularly the consumer pays an exorbitant price and it appeared, from an outside view, that the transport and distrbuting charges were the cause. —The secretary advised having already supplies the desired information.

MEAT BOARD' REPRESENTATION.

On tile motion of Mr Cocker .it- was resolved to draw the attention of the Dominion executive to the fact that cattlemen have no representation on the Meat Producers’ Board.

The president (Mr E. J. Betts) reported on a recent conference of the New Zealand Farmers’ Union, ,Sheepowners’ Federation, Employers’ Federation, and Counties’ Association to discuss the new taxation.
