EFFECTING ECONOMIES. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) CHRISTCHURCH, Aug. 6. In au interview last night the new Police Commissioner (Mr W. G. Wohlmann) said that no definite policy had yet been formulated, but the reduction of the police grant by £15,000 had made it necessary that the work of the department should! be carried on as economically as possible. Nothing drastic, such as reductions in wages or staffing, was intended, but where transfers or promotions- were necessary the, costs of transport would have to be considered.
