Mr. A. T. Main, of Mokoia, is still an inmate of a private hospital in Hawera and is progressing as well as can be expected. Many friends in the district of Mix Bruce Henson, who has been seriously ill, will be pleased to know that he is making .very satisfactory progress towards recovery.

Mr H. G. Dickie, M.P. for Patea., was a. passenger by to-day’s express for Welling,toil.

Mr G. A. Wilkinson, M.P. for Figment, travelled by the south express this morning to W ellington. Mr D. Straclian has entered the Hawera Hospital to undergo a major operation.

The death occurred at Wellington yesterday of Mr John Prouse, a notable figure in music circles in New Zealand. He was aged 75. A distinguished .baritone -singer. Mr Prouse had' toured with famous artists, ineluding Kubelik, Melba. Baohhaus and Doloire®. His greatest achievements were in oratorio and ho bad sung at Albert Hall and Queen’s Hall for 35 years. He was associated with St. Paul’s Pro-Gathedral choir. Mr Prouse wais born at AVainui-o-Mata, where his father settled in 1841 and was a successful man in the timber trade. He leaves a widow, three sons and two daughters. _ His sons are Mr William Prouse, architect, Mr Oliver Prouse, solicitor, AVellington, and Mr George. Prouse, Milan, Italy. At. a. meeting off directors off t'ho K.mpokonuii Co-operative Dairy Co., Ltd., yesterday Mr .T. E. Crompton was finally selected as the secretary off the company in suie'cession to the late Mr A. M. Hannah. Previously the final selection, had been narrowed! to. six of the I'2B applicants. For the past eight years: Mr Crompton has been secretary off the Golden Bay Dairy Company at Talc aka. in the Nelson district. He has also had' extensive experience in secretarial 1 and accountancy work ini Rhodesia. iWit'h others, Mr 'Crompton was interviewed (l>y the Jvaupakonui directors yesterday. He left- by this morninig’s express to return, to Nelson and expects to take over his new duties, in three weeks’ time.
