ANOTHER RAIL CUT
PJCTiOX J B'UE NHBIiM CUR-T AILMENTS. (By Telegraph—Special to “The Star.”) WEXmifiTON,' Aug. 5. A further instalment! of railways savings is announced by IXIon. W. A. Veit'eh (Minister of Railways). It 'has been decided to modify the services on the Preton-iW'haranui section 'somewhat drastically, curtailing train running with the object of effecting an annual saving o'f about £4OOO. The now time-table will provide ample facilities for goods traffic and an aJlcr.Manccf is juticlto for s‘pc’cia.l trains during periods peaik traffic. It is proposed to withdraw th o- station staff from Ward. Passenger traffic between iPicton and Blenheim has been seriously reduced through the opposition of road •services and it is anticipated that no further serious loss can accrue,; though, even if there is a further decline, the estimated saving of £4OOO would still be effected.
A summary of the revenue and expenditure for this seetion for the year ended 'March 31, T 0,30,,30, shows a loss on its working of £®3SO and a ]os*s, in'chiding interest of £36.943. The curtailed services are to bo operated forthwith.
