Cane-knives and bottles flourished in a brawl between British and Italian cane-cutters at cross roads near Innisfail and feeling is running high. The trouble arose over filling a vacancy in a mixed gang. The British chief ganger selected a fellow-coun-tryman, but the Italians wanted an Italian and they refused to allow the Britisher to sleep at the barracks. A 1 >ottie was thrown and a fracas followed.
