Scullin, announces that the £10,000,000 loan, which closed on Mondya, was oversubscribed by £2,250,000. The subscribers number 32,000. BOUNTIES TO INDUSTRIES. YEAR’S PAYMENTS. CANBERRA, July 29. According to returns available, tl|e Commonwealth Government paid away £528,638 in bounties in 1929-30 to various industries. INCREASED POSTAGE. IN FORCE ON AUGUST 1. CANBERRA, July 29. The Bill increasing letter postage to twopence has been passed. It operates from August 1. The proposed increase in bulk postage on newspapers was rejected on the ground that it would be prejudicial to country papers.
FEDERAL BUDGET.
CLOSURE TO END DEBATE. CANBERRA, July 29. Using the gag to end the Budget debate, Air Scullin, the Prime Alinister, forced the House of Representatives to vote on Air Latham’s economy amendment. This was defeated by 34 votes to 19. The first item on the Estimates was agreed to on the voices.
