CRITICS DISAPPOINTED
REPRESENTATIVE ROWING (By Telegraph—Press Association). WANGANUI, June 2A.. The rowing crew to represent New Zealand at tile Empire Games continues to do solid Avork on the river. Though the eight lia\ r e been together for over a Aveek, critics are ■somewhat disappointed Avith their showing. In the earlier stages of their training their rowing was ragged, but changes Avere then lieing made daily in tiie personnel. It Avas hoped that Avhen a, final election was made rapid improvement AA T ould be shown, but many faults are still noticeable, and the vieAv is expressed by local rowing experts that the coach will have hard task to mould the crew into a combination comparable Avith other crews Avliich have represented the Dominion Avith success overseas.
The Jong, sloav work indulged in until Monday has had a tendency to make the men more sluggish, but faster rows over short courses are hoav the order, and this should brighten up the roAving and bring about a much needed improvement. The oarsmen finish up their training here on Sunday and leave that night for Auckland to catch the Aorangi, which is sailing for Vancom r er on Tuesday.
