FOR ’FRTSCO-S YDNF.Y RUN. (United Press Association —By Electric Telegraph < '< ipyright.) NEW YORK, May 19. A message from Quiney, Massachusetts, states that officials of the city, State and nation officiated at the ceremonies of laying the keel of the first of the two vessels for the 1 Matson Line. The first will be launched in February and the second -a- few months thereafter. The ships are still unnamed. They will bs sister vessels and are estimated to cost approximately 80,000,000 dollars each. The length of each will be 632 ft., with a beam of 79ft., a draft of 28ft., a displacement of 25,885 tons and a guaranteed trial trip speed of 201 knots, enabling a- reduction to a 19-day t' / schedule between San. Francisco and i Sydney. The ships will accommodate 620 first-class passengers and 217 in the tourist class. Mr. Brookes, Australian representative, in a- congratulatory message stated: “May I be permitted to express the hope on behalf of mv country that the vessels when completed will return on every occasion from Australia to the United States laden to the gunwales with our produce.”
