“CURE” FOR CONSUMPTION

WANGANUI ALAN'S CLAIM.

HEALTH DEPARTMENT SCEPTICAL lßy TeiegrapD—Kress Ax»4H>ciaLioxx.j W-AJSTGtAJSrUI, Alo-y 7. A claim that he has discovered a cure for consumption and other ailments affecting the lungs is made by Air Robert Ireland, a retired farmer, of Wanganui. His theory is that a remedy. to be effective, must be applied in the most direct manner possible. His treatment consists of the application of an ointment which is smeareu on bmwn paper and tied over the chest. In four or five hours the body absorbs this. Mr V. Boyd, Wanganui, who has been applying the ointment for some time, .states it is too early to say definitely that it is a cure.

“I have been using it, and I am much better as a result,” Air Boyd says. “My doctor is pleased with the way I am shaping, and lhas told me to keep on with it.”

Mr Ireland! communicated with Dr. Watt, Deputy-Chief of the Health Department, and) advised him of the ingredients. Dr. Watt was sceptical about the ointment effecting cures, and expressed the opinion that it would be harmful to the skin. Mr Ireland believe®. Dr. Watt is wrong in this, and pointed to the fact that Mr Boyd had been using it for some time, and that his skin had not been affected in any way.
