PERSONAL ITEMS.

Mr. and Mrs Harpham and daughter, of Pakowai, Hawke’s Bay, tire on a visit to Hawera and are staying with Mr. and Mrs. M. Barracdough. Mr- Fred Mills, who is leaving for Canada about the second week in February, will be farewelled at Tokaora. Hall on February- 5. Mr. and ,Mrs. George Whitehorn, of Wellington, wlio have been staying with Miss Lysaght at Mokoia, left on their return home this morning bytrain.

Miss Power, of Hawera, left this morning foi; Helensville, north Auckland, on a holiday visit.’ Air. P. Thomson, Mayor of Stratford was a passenger by train this morning, eii rente to Tauranga.

Mrs. Gerald Mahoney, of Dunedin, with her little soil William, is paying a visit to Hawera and is staying witn her parents, Mr. and Mrs. L. S. Barraclough, Argyle Street. Mi. Andrew Fletcher, of Wellington, has received advice from the Hon. J. G. Cobbe, Minister of Marine, of his appointment to the Wellington Harbour Board as the representatives of the Government, to fill the vacancy caused by the death of Mr. J. G. Harkness, the Government nominee lor some years past.

Admiral M. P- O’Callaghan, a veteran who entered, the Navy in 1864, and served in the Egyptian War in 1882, is coining to New Zealand on the Rangitane, which is due at Wellington at the end of this week.

Mr Reuben Robinson, who lived for many years in Hawera, but who is now a resident of Auckland, celebrated liis' 92nd birthday yesterday. He still enjoys fairly good health, and takes a keen interest in topics of everyday life.

Mrs Jarvie, who won the open croquet championship in Palmerston North in the Dominion tourney, is well known in Hawera, where she was an enthusiastic member of the old Hawera Club some years ago. This is the first occasion .on which the honour has been secured by a lady player. Commandant Cook ,of the Salvation Army, Hastings, has just received a cablegram from his son, l3r. Bmmwell Cook, to the effect, that he has passed his final examination for the degree of P.R.O.S. In a 'fetter recently received by Commandant Cook, liis son recounts being at a New Zealand dinner, and out of a company of sixteen, all interested in medicine, six were sons of Wellington doctors. They were Messrs fi liott (2) , Hislop. Ewart, Young ancl ... av, all studying at Edinburgh, University.
