MAUI POMARE’S CARGO
FRUIT IN GOOD CONDITION *

WELLINGTON, Jan. 20. The Maui Pomare is- discharging in Wellington portion of her fruit shipment. A visit to the scene of the operations shows the fruit is in good condition though some eases show signs of ripening. There are approximately 3000 cases for Wellington including the whole of the Niue fruit of about iQOO cases. The rest of the cargo is for the South Island. There are approximately 4500 cases in, all from Apia. The ship proceeds to Lyttelton at three o’clock. At the fruit market where & sab* is taking place buyers say the cargo is mixed with a tendency to ripeness. Reports from the Wellington market state the delivery from the snip was slow and a small quantity was sold at to-day’s sales.
The Niene bananas were in better condition than those shipped at Apia, but the condition of the fruit precludes any po-sibilit.y of its being offei-ed for sale in Auckland. Prices varied according to the condition, but went as low as' 5s a case-
