CLUB TENNIS TOURNEY. STRATFORD’S SUCCESS. (From 'Our Own Correspondent). Very interesting and dose p'r.y resulted in a tennis tourney at Maraia on Saturday between members of the Sportsdate (Stratford) ind Mariam Tennis Clubs. The former won 11 sets to 8 and 140 games to liT. Details of the play were as follow, Manaia players being first mentioned:— Ladies’ singles.—Miss Hilles beat Miss Wright 7 —3 : Miss Rees bea/ Miss North. 7—3; Miss/Bell beat Miss Spence. 7—3 ; 'Miss Putt beat Mi s Irwin, 7—l.
Meoi’a singles,—L. Christie beat Irwin, 9.8; Meuli lost to W. Curtis, 5—9; Davies lost to Jud'i, 3 -9; Mickey lost t<> E. Young, 4—9; By an 'lost to Lyons, 5—9; Payne lost to R. B. Young, 7—9. Ladies’ doubles.—Misses Hilles and Rees lost to Misses Wright and North, 5 —9 Misses Bell and Putt beat Misses Spence, and 1 Ml's Irwin, 9 —-8. Men’s doubles.—Christie and Meuli lost to Irwin and Judd, 3—it: Davies and Hickey beat E. Young and Curiis, 9 —S: Ryau‘ and Payne lost to -Lyons and R. B. Young, 5—9. Combined doubles.
