GENERAL. A street selling stall in support of the Kaponga Town Band funds will he ■conducted by Mr F. Albon and a band, of assistants on Friday next. Repainting of the interior of the Town Hall and installation of a complete framework of coloured electric lights on the sides and top of ■ the proscenium has effected a great improvement. Owing chiefly to the pressure of haymaking operations 1 the activities of the tennis and cycle clubs are, for the time being, at a dead end. At Kapnni recently a splendid line of 15 weaner heifers, the pick of a 100-cow herd, were disposed of by the firm of Newton King, 'Ltd., to a Gisborne farmer.

During last week a new hillside pit silo on Mr J- W. H. Gardner’s farm at, Jliverlea. was brought into use. Tlie product of 20 acres of clover and ryegrass was put into the pit, the dimensions of which are 20 feet by 30 feet and 12 feet in dentil. The stack rose to a height of 18 feet above ground level, afterwards sinking 15 feet. The big job entailed the labour of five men and a boy for six days, working from 9 a.m. till 4 ,p.in. In handling the crop a. McCormack-Deering automatio loader was used, and for the first three days .no forking at the silo was necessary. PERSONAL.

Superintendent A. Melville, will represent Kaponga at the United Fire Brigades’ annual conference at Whangarei. The conference, which is to he held at the end of next month, will be of four or five days’ duration. Miss Mvra Daphne Lewis, late of Eltham, who died in New South Wales last week, was a sister of Mr Gwynne Lewis, Kaponga, and as a prominent hockey player was well known throughout South Taranaki. Miss Lewis took ut) her residence in Soiith Wales alxiut four years ago for health reasons.

Mr C. Morrissey, manager of Newton King’s Kaponga branch, who, with Mrs Morrissey, spent a fortnight’s holiday at New Plymouth, returned on Thursday. Mrs Morrissey returns to her home this week.
