BOARD EXPRESSES REGRET.

In view of a controversy that arose over methods used by the headmaster of Avondale public school to extract a confession of theft from a pupil, the Education Board committee to-day reported that the headmaster had been exonerated from a, charge of using any harshness in investigating the .alleged theft. The board expressed 1 regret that .a board’s servant had) been .subjected to criticism concerning his actions. It had bean alleged that the headmaster’s methods were tantamount to lain application of th© “third degree” and the case was pursued in the Supreme Court with the result that an order placing tlie child in the care of the Child Welfare Officer was quashed.
