PERSONAL ITEMS.
Messrs J. H. O. Bond, Dominion superintendent of the N.Z. Shipping Company, and Mr A. H. Sinel, Auckland representative ot the company, were visitors to Hawera yesterday and left for Wellington this morning. A London message says that yet another ex-statesman has adopted a business career, Lord Lloyd, former High Commissioner in Egypt, having joined the board of the Intel-national Sleeping Car Company. Dr. J. McGhie returned by car from Auckland on Wednesday evening. He is making a highly satisfactory recovery from the operation he underwent in Auckland, and was able to drive his r ar for the greater part of the journey down. Dr. McGhie will shortly leave for Central Otago to further recuperate. and will be accompanied by his family.
Friends all over South Taranaki will have learned with deep regret of the death on Wednesday of Mrs. Aroa, wife of Mr Frank Aroa' of Mangawhero Road, Riverlea. Mr and Mrs Aroa have been residents of that district for many yeans, and are well known and highly respected. Mrs Aroa had done a great deal of work for various local institutions, and her sons are leaders and prominent in the cycling world. Mnch sympathy will be' felt with them' in their sorrow. The death is reported from London of the Rev. Mark Guv Pearse. Born at Cambridge, Cornwall, on January 3, 1842. _he entered the Wesleyan University in 1863. For 14 years lie had been in London as Missioner at St. James’ Hall, in connection with the West London Mission. He was the author of numerous theological works nnd other hooks.
