“JOURNEY’S END.”
KING’S FOURTH VISIT. (United Press Association —By Electric Telegraph Copyright.) LONDON, Nov. 1.4, The King, Queen and Duke and Duchess of York paid a surprise visit, tot the play “Journey's End” to-night. This was the King’s- fourth visit to the theatre this week. The King sent for Mr. Slier,riff, the author,. after the second act and said the found the play most interesting amd was enjoying it very much. He questioned Mr. Sherrill about the production of the play abroad, particularly its treatment by German producers.
Mr. Sherriff was earlier present at a League of Nations dinner at Guildhall, where the manuscript of “Journey’s End” was auctioned. -Sir James Barry began the bidding at £SOO. The Lord Mayor, Sir William > Waterlow, bid £I2OO and the manuscript was knocked down to Sir Walter Lawrence far £ISOO. Sir Walter is a keen supporter of the League of Nations and announced that he had bought the manuscript to be preserved for the nation. The auctioneer disclosed that the entire “Journey’s End” company had offered a week’s salary for the manuscript but had had to be told it was not enough.
