Air Horner drew attention to the fact that many matters of interest t-o tlie- farmers were discussed at meetings oi t..-e chamber and that it- would be advisable to have a member from, isay, the Farmers’ Union, on the chamber.Tlie Farmers’ Union Executive to bo a-sked to nonrinat© two members. Notice of motion was later given proposing the appointment to the chamber of representatives from the Hawera Retailers’ Association and 1 tenth Taranaki Farmers’ Union Exeeutula or any other established organisation m the district. Tlie motion wild be submitted to the annuali meeting of the chamber. Tlie private secretary to the 1 rime Minister acknowledged the chamber s letter protesting against tlie increase in primage duties and -suggesting that duties oil foreign goods should carry tlie increase. lie said the matter would receive favourable attention. The Hawera Retailers’ Association advised the aji]wuntment of Mr B. C. Bennett and Air E. Dixon to lcpiesent it- on tlie chamber. It was decided that, as these two gentlemen were already members of the executive, the association should be- asked to consider appointment of other representatives. Tlie secretary of the Associated Chambers of Commerce wrote asking for tiie names of delegates to the annual conference to lie held at Auckland on October 14 and I.s.—Mr Horner said he would lie in Auckland at that time, and lie was therefore asked to act for the chamber. The Question of landing grounds was raised as the outcome of a letter from the Auckland Aero Chib, advising that a plane would lie -sent on a tour of inspection of the- North Island and would arrive in Hawera on October G. —lt was resolved that the matter was one- for tlie Aero Club, but- that the chamber would- give support. Tlie chairman added that it would he- a good opportunity to demonstrate the utility of the club. Tlie secretary of the Chamber of Commwrc in Now Plymouth advised that the chamber, in conjunction, with the Tourist and Expansion League and Automobile Association, had 1 decided to make urgent representations to, the Highways Board to have repairs done to the Afalioenui-Te Kuiti Road, and asking the Hawera organisation to take- similar action. He advised also that, his chamber bad written to the Minister of Public AV-orks, chairman of the Highways Board and of the AVaitomo County Council. The highways engineer had promised that the request would receive consideration. —It was agreed to reply that the chamber had already given support to the request. Tlie AVlieat Industry Committee forwarded ■ a circular dealing with the wheat question and the suggestions of the committee, and asking for evidence if tlie chamber thought fit to submit same. —Received.
