STANDARD CONTRACTS.

SALE OF BUTTER AND CHEESE STATEMENT BY CHAIRMAN OF DAIRY BOARD. (By Telegraph—Press Assnclawnn.) WELLINGTON, Sept. 5. Mr W. A. lorns, chairman of the Dairy Board, in a statement re. contracts, said that Mr Wight’s memory Avas evidently conveniently short Avhen he refers to. the standard contract approved in 1923, and omits to state that the oxecutiAe of the S.I.D.A. approved of the exporters’ terms, adopting the standard: contract some years prior to 1923, AVithout placing details before the producers, and in face of an objection from the executive of the National Dairy Association. Mr lorns Avas glad - Wight had receded from the statement that the Dairy Board approA’cd of the premium for finest cheese in the cheese contract, as he had receded from his statement that exporters Avere combining to force the butter contract ■on producers. Mr Wight. Avhen referring to the northern factories’ attitude to the premium on finest butter, had stated that the northern factories Avoidd oppose it, if it Avere known to them. This is the attitude of an ostrich placing its head in the sand. For the past, two years the northern and some •of the southern factories had been selling on this basis. The large quantities sold f.o.b. for the past two seasons had been made up of innumerable sales throughout the Dominion, all with. finest as the basic grade Avith a deduction for first grade quantity sold to Canada. The present season promises to reach; 600,Q00 boxes supplied by factories all oA'er Ncav Zealand Avith finest as the basic grade. The total export butter to all markets from South Island for the whole of last season was 135,500 boxes, and Mr Wight Avas unable to supply _an iota of proof that this quantity, if if AA'ere graded only first grade, could be sold at the same price f.o.b. as finest.
