At the Elltham Magistrate's Court on Tuesday, before Mr R. \Y. Tate. S.M.. judgment by default- was given for plaintiffs in a* civil ease brought by Lena, Bropliy and Thomas Buddie Crimp against Henry Christopher Anclerson- for the* sum of Ss. ILLBGALiLY ON PREMISES. Four men, W. M. Vickery. CL Baylis. Don Trotter, and Walter Wan, were charged with, being on the licensed premises of the Dominion Hotel. Kaponga, at n time when such were required to 'be closed. Vickery, Baylis and Wan appeared a;id pleaded! guilty. Constable O’D'onoglnie gave evidence that at about !>.h> p.m. oil August 10. lie found the four accused, who were all residents of Opunako, on the hotel premises. Two offered excuses, hut the others did not give any explanation of tliejr presence there. Vickery, Baylis and Wan were each fined 20s> with costs. A fine of 30s with 10s costs was imposed tip-on Trotter, who did. not appear. HI G H-SPEED MOTOIILN G . William Dunn, charged with driving a motor car on High Street, within Die borough o*f Eltliam qii July IS, at a speed dangerous to the public, did not appear 'but wrote to the court. While pleading guilty, defendant challenged the suggestion that his speed was JO miles an hour; he may have been travelling at 20 miles. 'The borough solicitor (Mr St. L. Beeves) said that three local residents, all qf whom drive ears, saw defendant drive over an intersection at not less than -10 miles an hour, and they advised the- inspector of the fact. A fine of £3 with 10s costs was entered. X 0 REFLECTORS. Marie Thurston, T. A. Bridge and Sidney Hoskiu were each fined 10s with costs lor driving mot.or cars not equipped with reflectors qr periscopes. The last named said his car was an old one and only used for travelling from his farm to town and back, which drew the remark from the magistrate that the fact of it being an old car did not give the driver any clearer view el the rear. It was not safe, lie said, to drive any car unless it was properly equipped. For riding a bicycle in Elf ham County without a reel reflector, W. H. Worthington, who said he was not aware the authorities were so strict about reflectors. was fined JOs and IDs costs.
