FARMERS’ UNION

Tile usual monthly meeting of the local branch of the Farmers’ Union was held on Wednesday at Whakamara, with a very fair attendance of members, Mr L. F. Bell (president) being in the chair. Mr E, K. Cameron, provincial secretary, was present, and gave a- very interesting talk on the work and aims of the union. A very interesting evening was enjoyed, and at the conclusion of the business supper was provided' by the Whakamara friends. ' Mr Cameron was accorded a hearty vote of thanks for his attendance and address. A similar compliment was paid to Mr Bell for presiding and to members of Whakamara for their hos- I pitality. It was agreed to hold the next meeting at Whakamara,

GENERAL. Many eases of influenza with its accompanying complications are reported in the district, and there is scarcely a. house where the trouble has not made its appearance. Mr C. B. Lee has been in hospital for some time, and is now on the fair road to recovery. Mr A. T. Main was taken to hospital a. few days ago, and latest news is that lie is progressing as favourably as can he expected. Mr Charlie Ritchie was also taken to hospital a few days ago, and he also is making satisfactory progress.
