EARTHQUAKE RELIEF.
OVER, £IOO,OOO SUBSCRIBED. (Bv Telegraph—Press Association.) WELLINGTON, Aug. 13. Within two months of opening of the funds for the relief of the distress consequent on the earthquake disaster, the sum subscribed to date .is £101,832 9s 2d. CLAIMS OF PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH. NOT R ECOGNISED SO FAR. CHRISTCHURCH, Aug. 13. At a meeting of the Christchurc-ih Presbytery, the opinion was expressed that church property came within the scope of earthquake relief. A notice was received from the clerk of the Westland district that damage to church, property was at least £SOO, but the relief committee considered that the church had no claim on the funds. The speaker -said that Presbyterians had added their subscriptions tq, the' central liurd on the understanding that relief would be granted wherever damage had been done. It wa.s decided that letters be written to the Mayor of Christchurch and the president, of the Presbyterian advisory committee ,drawing attention to the fact that the claims of the church, werenot being recognised. ,
