Navigators may soon be obtaining wen depths by means of a novel apparatus which sends a sound to the ocean !i ed and denotes the depth bv the time taken to hear it again. This secret device, which i:s already fitted to most naval vessels, is said to add greatly to the safety of a ship in shallow waters during foggy weather.
