Esson, see ond assistant-secretary of the G.P.0., as New Zealand representative to the imperial Communications Advisory Committee, referred to in a telegram last week. Mr. Esson, who during Mr McNamara's absence is acting as first assistant secretary, entered: the Post and Telegraph service in 1889 as an administrative officer. He lias been actively connected with telegraph and wireless matters and is thoroughly familiar with all the circumstances leading up to the merger of the cable and wireless interests. His new appointment is an important one from the cable users’ point of view, and it is considered that Mr. Esson is well equipped and has the requisite knowledge of the details of cable and wireless communciation to enable him to examine thoroughly all proposals likely to come before the Advisory Committee. He will retire from the Post and Telegraph service on completing 40 years’ service and will probably leave for England in November next.
