NOR DEN CUP GAME. TARANAKI AND DANNEYIRKE DRAW. (By TelesraDh—Press Association). DAXNWIRKEI, July 4. The Dannevirk© men’s hockey representatives, who won the Norden Cup from Wairarapa in 1927 and successfully defended it in the succeeding seasons, played yesterday the first challenge of the season against Taranaki, the galine ending in a draw, one goal each.
Taranaki commenced very strongly and had the better of play in the first quarter of an hour and then the holders’ play began to improve. With 20 minutes gone K. Pennington; sent a liot shot into the net for the challengers, and three minutes before the spell ended J. Smith scored for Daunovirke. The second hallf was -.stubbornly contested, Dannevirke being almost continuously on the- attack until the concluding stages, when Taranaki organised several dangerous rushes, but without scoring. Tlho game was a- good ex liilblition on a dead ground. WARRIORS BEAT MANATA. Warriors won from Manaia. at hockey yesterday by one goal to nil. Warriors were much the hotter team on-the day, j and were unlucky in scoring on only | one occasion. Their goal came in the j first few ininutes of the match, when j Dowdle netted alter a hot attack. Ken- . dal, at centre-half for Warriors, wa,s ] tlie best player on the field. Mr E. Fryer was the referee.
