Although the course proper was open, tnere was no fast worn performed this morning at Hawera, and it will be Saturday before the local horses engaged at Easter will be sent along in earnest. Keremoana and Valpre, back from Trentiuun, were out doing light exercise and look none tlie worse for their trip. A decision as to their Easter movements will be arrived at in the course of a few days. Giengariff has been harshly treated at Auckland by being awarded 11.4 in the Brighton Hurdles, and his trip north is not likely to eventuate. Llauore has been suffering from a sore mouth since Opunake, but has just about recovered and it has been definitely decided to continue her great Northern Oaks engagement. She will m all probability go up by Tuesday’s l>o at. M. Conway is giving the steeplechaser, Maidos, solid pace work and he should be ready early for winter racing. Pikimai in the same stables is much more forward and doing all that is required of him in first-class styles. Airway and Gasnupper were out doing pace work. The pair will he next seen out at Feilding. J. Fryer has had the Tree Lucerne filly Animated brought m again and she looks much beneftttea by her spell. At Opunake last Saturday Benzora faded out of the six furlong race rather unaccountably to his trainer. Yesterday he beat a much better field at Palmerston and was evidently an improved horse. Hawera horses had a great run at Awapuni yesterday. Bright- Glow winning the principal handicap, Vivo the hurdles and Benzora the sprint. In addition Mendip ran second to BrightGlow.
