SOUTH AUCKLAND TEAM. HAWEEA DEFEAT VISITORS. The South Auckland representative bowling team commenced its Soutn Taranaki campaign yesterday in anything but ideal climatic, conditions. , Three rinks contested a series of matches with Opunake and the combined Manaia-Auroa reams, while six rinks played against the Haw era Club on the latter's green. . Despite the wet and sodden natuiemi tke greens, many interesting matches were witnessed. The visitors were defeated in two out of the three contests, as at Manaia the combined teams beat the tourists by 73 to G 3, but the latter secured a 17-point victory over Opunake. The Hawera players were, however, playing up to their usual kig j standard and defeated the South Aucklanders by the substantial margin of 53 i points, the visitors winning only one i rink, the final scores reading 168—115. \ Mr O. A. Burgess, president of the Hawera Club, welcomed the visitors, extending the club’s felicitations to the l members of the team and their ladies. Mr Clothier, of Te Aroha, acknowledged the welcome, and both exchanged badges. Afternoon tea was dispensed by a strong ladies' committee. Appended below are the details of tlio various gaiues ; with.
