CAMP AT WAVERLEY.
CONCERT LAST NIGHT.
HAWERA PARTY ENTERTAIN MEN.
At the request of Padre Abbey, who is in camp \yiin an© men, a party ox vocalists and elocutionists organised by Rev. Jii. to. Emrnitt visited the territorial camp at \v averiey last mgiit. tney gave a very interesting ana varied programme widen was cordially appreciated by all present. The G.O.C. New Zealand Eorces, General Young, and the O.C. Central Command, Brig.-(general J, H. Whyte, paid a special visit to .the camp and were present with the camp commandant, Rieut.-Colonel F. E. Turnbull, of Wanganui, Adjutant D. F. Maxwell, the medical oiticer, Major D. Wilson and Quartermaster Lieut. C. S. Swan. Padre Abbey brielly introduced Mr Einnntt, who took the chair and presided for the evening’s amusement. Songs were given by Miss W. Mills, and Mrs Dry nan j recitations by Miss M. Leggatt; euphonium solo by Mr Zinsli ; zylopnone solo by Mr Kenyon; violin solo by Ray Downey - and monologues .by Mr J. Ron wick; and yarns by the chairman. There were also a number of glees and part songs by; a double quartette, and ’ community singing controlled by Mr Ron wick. These proved a great success and were much enjoyed by all present. At the conclusion hearty votes of thanks were accorded the performers and they were entertained to supper in the officers’, mess, thus ending a very pleasant evening. The G.O.C. and General Whyte will hold an inspection to-day and .this evening the men will have- a musical evening of their own.
. To-morrow evening the annual ball will be held in the. Waverley Town Hall, the men’s committee co>-operating in the mangement with a committee of Waver ley ladies.
