HUTT ROAD NOVELTY.

SPECTACULAR RUN AW AY. TRAFFIC OFFICER. TO THE RESCUE. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) WELLINGTON, Jan. 23. It is a somewhat rare sight to see a , horse on the Hutt Road (nowadays, and possibly it was fright, possibly a last attempt to defy the motor, that led to a spectacular runaway to-day. A horse in a baker’s cart made off at Ngahaurnnga and for several miles almost to the Petone crossing, it was in complete charge of the road. A car pulled across in a fruitless endeavour to block the animal, a lorry was also ineffective and still another vehicle failed to edge the runaway into the bank. It was a- traffic officer and pedestrians who stopped it before it reached the railway, hut- it was an exhausted animal by that time.
