WOMAN SHOP-LIFTER FINED,

(By Telegraph—Press Association.) AUICKX.AND, Jan. 12. A charge of shop-lifting was preferred against Marie Enwright, aged 39, a married woman who was fined £5 or one month’s imprisonment. When she appeared Chief Detective Hammond said the woman took a piece of fancy work displayed for sale, and was seen with it by one of the shop assistants. As soon as she knew she ■was detected she_ threw it way. The piece of fancy work was of no use to her and it appeared she had given way to sudden temptation. ASSAULT ON A CONSTABLE. f DUNEDIN, Jan. 14. For assaulting a constable who sustained a scalp wound and received hospital treatment, Albert Harris was sentenced to three months’ imprisonment. The constable was arresting another manwhen he was kicked.
