SALARIES OF MEMBERS OF PARLIAMENT. (Bv Telegraph —Press Association.) WELLINGTON, Jan. 14, The Thorndon branch of the A.S.R.S. carried the following motion unanimously : ‘ ‘That members of the Thorndon branch of the A.S.R.S. note .with interest thq movement by members of Parliament to have their" honoraria increased, and strongly object to any such- increases unless and until the salaries and wages of public servants are restored to at least the 1921 level. Further, the members of this branch of the A.S.R.S. wish to make it quite clear that if members of Parliament vote themselves anything in excess of the restoration of the ten] per cent, cut made on their honoraria in 1921, the public servants throughout the Dominion also should he voted a similar proportionate increase in their salaries and wages.” During th© discussion it .was contended that members of Parliament were being paid amply for the work they were doing, but an allowance should be paid members while absent from their homes on parliamentary business. STEAMER TO RESUME. CHRISTCHURCH, Jan. 14. The steamer Waikouaiti, which has been laid up for some months through a dispute between the employers and the crew, will resume running in the intercolonial service-next week. The work of overhauling the ship commenced to-day. TEA'OHERS ’ SUMMER .SCHOOL. OAMARU, Jan. 14. The teachers’ summer school was formally opened here to-day when a welcome was accorded by. the Mayor and representatives of the Waitaki High School Board and the Otago Education Board. About 250 teachers are attending from all parts of the Dominion, 200 being ace'ommodated at Waitaki Boys’ High 'School boarding establishment. The whole building has been placed at the- disposal of ■ the organisation by the board. WELLINGTON EIRE.
