SAFEGUARDING DUTIES.

There is great interest in Yorkshire iini the decision of the- meeting of tho National Association of Union® in .the textile trades at Bradford 1 . In consequence oif the report of five trade vuniotas the association adopted the following declaration: '‘That tmcmployment in the. local industry is likely to be. accentuated by the importation of foreign dressed goods. Trades unions, with certain limitations, should therefore support the manufacturers in making further application for safeguarding. ’ ’ The declaration follows ai conference wiith the employers. It •is understood the duty proposed will apply to all imported wool fabrics _ of from two to cloven ounces per square yard'. The previous safeguarding applications in 1925 were refused, but the trade unions were not associated with the employers on ithat occasion. Tho trade unions will Meet on Tuesday to draw up tho details.
