ATHLETIC SPORTS.
PRIMARY SCHOOLS CHAMPIONSHIPS. The athletic sports gathering to toe held on the Show Gr ounds at Haw era an Wednesday, 12th irnst., open to competitors from the South Taranaki district, .promises to toe the most stnecossful yet held. The Dixon Banner and Bennett and Sutton Cup competitions, for seniors and juniors ■ respectively, have been accorded record entries, and with several competitors, pins the attendance of monHparticipating pupils, for whom, by the way, suitable, provision is made, the show ground will present a 1 busy and exhilarating scenei on the 12th. The committee responsible for the conduct of this gathering, the importance of which is yearly growing, are to a man actively engaged in business, or otherwise, tout gladly give a great deal of time and effort towards making the sports something more than a mere outing for the children and they make an appeal for a generous attendance iod: tlio public, first a,s an .endorsement of the value Of their effort to the community, and Secondly to provide revenue for the maintenance and expansion of the effort. In addition to the foregoing claims on the public, the committee emphasises the point that the sport provided is good value for the .price of admission.
