MAORI ELECTIONS

DETAILED RESULTS TWO REFORM AND TWO UNITED. SOUTHERN WON BY ONFJ VOTE. Two Reform and two United candidates were elected to the four Maori seats yesterday. Sir Maui Pomare retained his Western seat by a wide majority over the Ratana candidate. Tau Henare (Reform) also retained his seat .(Northern). Sir Apirana Ngata (United), the sitting member, did not meet serious opposition, winning by a wide rajority. In the Southern electorate the position was particularly interesting, the final results giving the victory from seven candidates to Tuiti Makitanara (United) by one voe from E. T. Tirikaene (Ratana). Here there is the possibility, of course, that a recount may upset the present order. The sitting member for the seat, H. W. Uru (Reform), was over 30 votes behind the leaders. The detailed results, members of the last Parliament being denoted by an asterisk, are : WESTERN MAORI. *Sir Maui Pomare (G.) 4542 H. T. Ratana 2982 Sir returns to come, cannot affect result.
