RE MR SIMPSON AND UNITED PARTY.

(To the Editor.) Sir, —1 m'otiicc in your paper .statements by both Mr S. G. Smith amd Mr \V. G. Simpson, referring to the, matter of a, ll interview, Mr Davy, United; Party Dominion, organiser, and myself had with Mr. \V. G l . Simpson in reference to tire matter of his standing for the Patea electoraltc in the interest of the United Political Party. It would seem that a great deal of 'hot air is being let off to no purpose, and I cannot see where the matter is of interest to. electors, nevertheless for the benefit of those who are interested, and specially for the benefit pf both Mr Simpson and Mr Smith, I set out the facts as I know them. . Mr Davy and I met Mr Simpson in the Central Hotel, Hawera-, and discussed with him the matter of finding a candidate for Patea to stand in the interests of the United Party. We wished to got Mr Simpson’s views on the matter of his standing, and to, ascertain his views on various political matters. We had no authority to ask him to stand and certainly did not do so. As regards' the matter of party funds I told Mr Simpson on the telephone that I could not recollect that the question of party funds 1 was mentioned at the meeting. I can hardly understand Mr Da.vy stating that the fund was £25,000, and I certainly did not say so; further, I do not think that this amount is correct. —Yours, etc., S. E. YEITCH.
