OPE I* A HOUSE THIS EVENING. TE® concert to be given io-iiigjit at tile Opera Howe by tne Qra’hestral Society promises to be one of tho bait yet given under the aegis of that progressive and enterprising body of imusiciiams. Tne special feature is the fact that it will be a ‘‘request programme,’’ the items having been decided by poplar vote. An outstanding performance will be the performance of the great “1812 overture” of Tsebai ko wsky, in which a hundred i nstruanentalists will take part. These will be drawn from the soc-iety, the schools ’orchestra and the Municipal Band. In the item, “In a Mcnaistry Garden’ ? the Hawera Male Choir will assist in the chant of the monks. The .orchestra, from the High and Main Schools will give some of its test numbers. ' The assisting artists are Miss Myra Sawyer, a, popular and gifted soprano from Wellington, Miss M. E. Quin, of Hawera. an able elocutionist who won honours at the Hawera -Competitions, and the Melody Four, of New Plymouth.. a male _ quartette who ‘are well known for their good work and who i’pye gained high distinction at competitions in the cities.
