The Chief Returning Officer reports' that there .are. contests in all constituencies, including the Maori electorates. There are two candidates 1 only ini the following:—Bay of Plenty Otago Central, Buller, Christchurch.’ East, Christchurch South, Clivtha, • Dunedin Central, Egmont, Franklin, Hntt, Invercargill, Kaipara, Matama,, Motueka, Napier', Nelson, Oi-oua, Paten, Stratford, Temuka, Tim am. Wairau, Whitaki, North and Westland. EGMONT SEAT. The candidates for the Egmont seat are: OSWALD JAMES HAWKEN (Reform), sitting member; nominated by William Snowdon (Inaha), J. S. McKav (Inaha), T. MR. POLSON’S LAND SETTLEMENT FIGURES. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) STRATFORD, Oct. 29. Speaking at "Whangamomona, Mr. W. J. Poison said: “The'Hon. A. D. McLeod still continues to misrepresent my land settlement figures, following Reform’s usual methods. He asserts that I declared 1 that 1,000,000 acres per annum were going hack to fern and second growth. Reports in, the local papers show clearly that what I said was that, in spite of the stepping down of the classification by the Government, the Year Book figures for the last five years show-, beyond doubt, that 100,000 acres per annum are going back, and , not 1,000,000 acres.”

UNITED CANDIDATE FOR, WAIPAWA. WAIPUKURAU, Oct. 29. A public meeting of supporters of the United Party in the Waipawa electorate was held at Waipukurau on Saturday night, oves 40 attending. Those present unanimously decided to, support Mr. E. A. Goodger’s candidature. Mr. Goodger, who opens his campaign at Waipukurau on, Wednesday, was Mayor of Waipukurau for eight years and a, representative on many local bodies. He has a long record of public services. ;

SIR JOSEPH. WARD’S SUPPORTERS.

INVERCARGILL, Oct. 29

One of the most enthusiastic meetings ever held in Invercargill was the verdict of those attending the meeting of Sir Joseph Ward’s friends and supporters, held on Saturday evening. An informative address by Mr. R. Mastery was splendid received. A general committee of over 200 was formed and) the following motion, to which many spoke enthusiastically, .was unanimously carried: “That the supporters and friends of Sir Joseph Ward, of Invercargill, having the utmost confidence in hipf and realising the necessity for the leader being freed from his electorate during the election period, in order that he may be enabled to. concentrate on the Dominion campaign, hereby pledge themselves to secure his return and! urge him not to concern himself with the local situation. All is well is the message from his devoted supporters.
