Mr. W. W. Sutton, who has been appointed postmaster at Hawera- in succession to Mr. L. J. Bull, arrived in Hawera to-day, and takes up his new duties to-morrow. (Miss Leonta (Proctor, of Sydney, who is studying singing with Spencer Clay, has signed a. contract to play the* part of a leading singer in a Birmingham pantomime, states a London Press- message. A Press Association message from Hastings recorded flic death lof -the Rev. Peter Ramsay, . Presbyterian minister at Hastings for 20 years. He retired last year on account of failing health.
A pioneer colonist wh’o was -born in Nelson eighty-four years ago, Mrs John Webby, passed to her rest yesterday at her home on the Hastings Road, Mangatoki. Mrs Webby came to Taranaki forty-two years ago and after two years in Hawera settled with her late husband and two children on la bush section at Mangafoki, where she lived till her death. Mrs Webby’s father came out on -the first ship to Nelson. Mrs Webby was held in the -highest esteem by all wiho knew her and her personality was such as -to endear to all her friends. -She leaves two children to imourn their loss, Mrs Alex McCracken, who, with her ‘husband, lived many years in Manaia, and Mr Lon Webby, who is still on the homestead farm. 'The funeral will leave the home at Manga'tokn. to-m!orrow at 1 p,m. for the Hawera Cemetery.
