TOWN DISTRICT AFFAIRS.

BOARD'S MONTHLY MEETING

(From Our Own Correspondent)

At the monthly meeting; of the Nornianby Town Board there were present: Commissioners O. J. Preston, 1. Lloyd, P. Leyden, A. Hills and A. Galloway. Commissioner Preston was ejected chairman.

The following committees were elected: —Works, Commissioners C. J. Preston A. Hills and A. Galloway. A tetter was received from the secretary of the Taranaki Local Bodies; Association, stating that the association had been approached with a view to considering the question of having March 31 declared a provincial anniversary holiday, as was the practice in other parts of the Dominion. The association desired to have the board’s view of the matter.

The board decided to (support tire proposal that- Anniversary Day be declared ■A public holiday. It was left with the chairman and clerk to ascertain the number of traffic signs that would he required, for the town district and also to inform fibre Taranaki Local Bodies’ Association that the board was in favour Ql : the association calling tenders for the. supply and erection of the whole of the signs. The chairman of the Alain Highways Board wrote intimating that in future it was intended to subsidise borofigho and town districts in the business areas up to a width of 66 feet on the main roads.

A letter wa« recetoed from Dr. Mecredy. district health officer, concerning the necessity for new h-ea'ith by-law," including offensive trades, and licensing of food premises. He pointed out that uniform by-laws should be enacted in these respects. A.s the junctor. GENERAL

The monthly meeting of the Domain Board was held last night, all. members being present.Mr C. I. Preston occupied the chair. . Five tenders were received tor U’ja lease of the park for the ensuing war. Mr J. Mcnli’s tender of £l7, being the highest, aaius accepted. Mr A. Brown, of Hawera, lias secured the contract for the erection of the neiv police station, and the Avork a® to be put in hand immediately.
