DUNEDIN CHAMPIONSHIP. PROFESSIONAL SEMI-FINAL. THIS MORNING’S PLAY. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) DUNEDIN, Oct. 17. The weather is overcast with very little wind for the golf tourney. The semi-final of the professional championship and the third round of the amateur championship (both 36 holes) are being played. The first 18 holes resulted : •—■ Professional Championship.—A. J. Shaw 2 up on E. S. Douglas; J. McIntosh 3 up on J. A. Clement. Amateur Championship, third round. —B. Wright 9uponJ. L. Black; S. O.' Colbeek 1 up on J. D. Duncan; T. H. Horton 4 up on H. A. Black; K. Ross 10 up on A. G. Sime.

THE PLAY DESCRIBED. DUNEDIN, Oct. 17. Douglas had the advantage at the turn, but Shaw’s better putting reversed the position. Both played good long games, Shaw’s score was 74 and Douglas’s 76. Mclntosh’s 73 enabled him : to establish a lead of three on dements, whose putting was weak, Wight created a sensation by recording 67, which is an - unofficial course record for Balmacewan. He was out in 31 and in in 36. Black played a good 76, which was useless against Wight’s super golf. The closest match of this morning’s series was between Duncan and Oolbeck. There w;as never more than one between them and Colbeek -was favoured at the end of the round. The gallery that followed the RossSime match were given a finished display of 71 by RJoss, but a very disappointing showing by Sime, who visited the bunkers, made short approaches and had putting.

HAWERA MEN’S TOURNEY. VERY GOOD ENTRIES. The Hawera Golf Club’s Labour Day tourney will open on the local course on Saturday. Satisfactory entries have been received and they indicate that the tourney should be most enjoyable. So far the total of entries has reached seventy and a few more are expected. 'There will be qualifying rounds played on the first day, 'the first sixteen to play in the championship and the second sixteen in the Fairfield handicap. After that will be played the eliminating rounds. In conjunction with these matches there will be medal and bogey competitions for those who do not qualify and also continuous putting competitions.

NEW COURSE RECORD'. O’OALLAGHAN’S. FINE ROUND On Monday a new course record was put up by O 1 ’ Callaghan, his card showing the great score of 76, 38 out and 38 back. The card showed that he, with a little luck, might easily have clipped a couple off or pei'haps three. He missed two silly putts and put a ball out of bounds at the third. But it is a very handy total and shows that be will be hard to beat in the tourney. The card reads as follows: Out—4, 4,6, 5,3, 4,4, 5,3, 38; home —2,5, 3,5, 5,6, 4,3, 5, 38.
