South Taranaki is fortunate in possessing such a live body of enthusiasts jin the members of the council of the Hawera Acclimatisation Society whose one aim. and object is to provide adequate sport for weilders of the .rod and line. The system of heavy stocking of rivers throughout the society’s district during the past three or four years should provide fish of size and quality to suit the tastes of the most fastidious followers of the Izaok Walton cult and the season promises to he a record one in this, respect. Notwithstanding the inclemency of the weather during the post few weeks, reports have drifted in of.nlce-sized fish seen in several of the rivers, some of the chroniclers going as far as to. say tihai;- the rivers are literally “teeming with-fish.” . The society is to be commended on its resolve to close, for a season, the Kapiini River throughout the . entire length of the stream with, the idea of .making) itb wholly a rainbow stream. Having been well stocked, with young fish .it .remains only for the sports of ilia district to give the fish a chance in become firmly established, a natural tendency qf this fine fighter in such ideal surroundings. The Ivaupokonui River will bo open to all fishermen until the end of the year, but will be reserved for fly nshermen only, from Glenn Road to Dun.n s Creek as from January next, till the end of the. season. The appointment of honorary rangers in addition to the usual Government Rangers should keep down poaching in the district and the society intend to prosecute in every case brought under notice.
