HAWERA TRACK NOTES.
(By “Limited.”) Fine weather with a, fairly strong wind wore the conditions prevailing this morning for training operations.
The outside of -the course proper was again open for horses engaged at Wanganui next week and. all fast work was performed there. On account of the recent heavy rains the going was fairly heavy and no fast times were put up. W. Pine was the first out and sent Denier a good working gallop over five furlongs in 1.12. 'Calamine and Soveno. wore next out and starting from a. walk up start from the proper six furlong post, ran. the journey in 1.26, with Calamine going best at ithe finish.
Glengariff, Gasnappor and Pikimai were given -exercise work on the sand. Pikimai is remaining with M. Conway and is to compete at the Manawaitu Hunt meeting on the 19th inst. Troilus-- was give a round of the schooling hurdles, jumping splendidly. He was afterwards .sent once round on the outside, running home the last two furlongs in good style. Kawhakima and Green Acre galloped six furlongs from the old posts in 1.28, finishing together. Boundary did not act too well in the heavy going and took 1.14 to run her five furlongs. Paitomi, working by himself, did strong pace work over six furlongs in 1.29.
Polyphemus, also 'by himself, went a -mile in 1.584.
Benzora and Partaga broke away from the five furlong posts with Benzora in front practically all the way, and beating Partaga home iby a length and a half in 1.10 4-5.
Bonogne, Black Odin and the maiden full-brother to Fortnlicc, went half a mile in 574, with Bonogne. doing best of the trio.
Mcndip and Bright Glow were companions over the four furlongs, and Mcndip finished a shade in front in 57 sec.
Vivo, looking all the better for her racing, did a working gallop over a mile in 2.2.
Royal Mint was sent only four furlongs, which he nicely compassed in 58 see.
Sagittarius and a number of other horses did pace work on the sand track. The fast work was concluded by Reremoana and Silvermine going together over five furlongs'. Silvermine jumping out smartly, had the advantage and managed to hold his opponent to the finish in 1.104.
