The death occurred at Wellington on Tuesday of Mr. Tudor Atkinson, a son of the'late Sir Harry Atkinson. He leaves two sons and two daughters.

Mr Samuel Turner arrived in Hawera yesterday, and is staying at the Central Hotel. To-morrow lie intends (weather permitting) to make his fiftieth ascent of Mt. Egmont. It is reported . that Mr E. G. Hammond, who is well known in .business and political circles in Wellington, has tendered .his resignation as president of the new United Political Party. On Wednesday a settler well known in Hawera, who now lives in New Plymouth, joined the select band of nonagenarians of the Dominion when he celebrated his ninetieth birthday and was entertained by a number of friends. Mr Heslop, who was a Maori war veteran and had received the New Zealand Cross, came over from Hawke’s Bay many years ago. He settled on the Hastings Road, near Mawhitiwhiti, and lived there for many years, when he retired to Eltham, later going to live at New Plymouth. Mr Heslop was interested in public life and served some years on the Hawera County Council. He was in his early days noted as a wrestler and took part in many forms of athletics.
