The much debated South Hoad railway crossing is at last nearing completion. On Sunday, the Kailway Department had a strong gang of men employed, and "with the assistance of two large cranes, the girders weighing approximately fifteen tons were placed in position. The work of placing these heavy girders, which was nnder the supervision of Mr. H. Gillespie, of the Wanganui branch of the Railway Department-, was watched by a large number of people throughout the day. Now that the Railway Department ha si completed its part of this very necessary work, everything is ready for the completion of the excavations etc. by the' County Council. It is expected that the whole work will be completed within a month.
