Mr W. P. Fitzgerald, special representative of the Fuller-Gonsalez Grand Opera Company, passed through Hawera on Saturday en route to New Plymouth. The company is to appear at Hawera next week. Mr William ITeughan and party arrived from New Plymouth this morning, and during their stay will be gnosis at the Egmont Hotel. The Very Rev. P. F. Cullen, of Hawera, was a passenger by the mail train this morning for Wellington, where, tie joins 'the Makura for Sydney to attend the Eucharist ic.-Congress to be held this ■month. Afr W. Farquhar Young, elocutionary judge at .the recent, (competitions-, left, by the in'ail train this morning on his return to Christchurch. At the annual meeting of shareholders of the Eltham Dairy Company on Saturday a resolution was unanimously passed instructing the directors of the company to refund to Mr. H. D. Forsyth the deficiency in his personal guarantee to the dairy industry ten years ago, amounting to £ISOO. The resolution was carried amidst applause. The deatli of Mr. John Howie, of Waverley, took place at the Wanganui hospital following on an attack of pneumonia. The late Mr. Howie; with his parents, arrived in New. Zealand in 1856. Forty-seven years ago he, with his brother, the late Mr. Geo. Howie, took up land in the Ivolii (Waverley) district, and farmed successfully for a number of years. About 18 years ago they sold their farm and retired to Waverley. He married a daughter of the late Mr. John McLean, who predeceased him two years ago. A large family of nine daughters and one son are left to mourn their loss— Mrs. L. Irvine and Mrs. J. Stewart fKai Twi), Mrs. W. Bremer (Patea), Mrs. W. Hunter (Waitotara), Mrs. F.
