SUTTON CUP CONTEST.
SEVEN-A-SIDE HOCKEY. EASY WIN FOR, MANGATOKI. Five teams entered for the Sutton Cup seven-a-side hockey tournament, played on King Edward Park yesterday. The weather and ground conditions were favourable, and good, fast hockey resulted. Owing to an early start being made, the attendance was poor at the commencement of the tournee, but improved as the afternoon wore on, and by the time the- last round was playect there was a very fair attendance.
Two spells of seven minutes were placed in each bout, provision being made for the playing of a third spei. of seien minutes in the event of a draw occurring in the final. As events turned 0.. t, however, this was unnecessary, as Mangatoki, with three wins aim a draw, had a clean-cut victory, dispensing with the playing of semi-final and final bouts. .The winning team stored a total of 12 goals, and only one was recorded against it_ Otakeho were run-ners-up with-two ivins, one draw, and one loss. Hawera A and Boys’ Club, each with two wins and two losses, were next on the ladder. Mianaia lost all lour garnets and scored only one goal. The teams were: llawera A.—A. Palmer, E. Second Round. Roys’ (lull, 2 goals (D. Ekdalil 2). v. Manaia, 1 goal (R. Hill). -Mangatoki, 1 goal (JJ. Sheerin), v. Hawera A, nil. Otakeho, a b,\e. Third Bound. Hawera A, 1 goal (B. Wilton), v. Manaia, nil. Mangatoki and Otakeho played a pointless draw, the latter team putting up a stulihorn defence. In the second hal, the persistence of Guy and Bennie was seieval times on the- verge of reward, b.ut always the defence held good. toys’ Club a bye.
Fourth Bound
Otakeho, 1 goal iG. Surgenor), v. Boys’ Club, nil. The winners had much the better of the first half, but had. to put up a sound defence in the closing •stages to ward off a draw.
Mangatoki, 7 goals, v. Manaia, nil. this was a- complete walk-over, Bennie sroring four goals, and Guy, Sheerin, and Thompson notching one each. Hawera A a bye. Fifth Bound. Boys’ Club, 1 goal (G.
