CHRISTCHURCH, Aug. 18 The inter-collegiate football tournament, in which Nelson, Wanganui, Wellington and Christ colleges are engaged commenced on Christ’s college ground this afternoon in fine, calm weather. Christ’s College beat Wanganui by 24 points to 11, and Nelson and Wellington drew, 13 all. NORTH v. SOUTH OTAGO.
OAMARU, Aug. 18. The Otago touring team defeated North. Otago this afternoon in ideal weather on a greasy ground by seven points to nil. The . visitors had the cotter of the first spell, Leyden' dropping a field goal soon after the commencement. Before- the close of the Bpell F. Donnelly kicked a penalty. The second half was very even and exciting. A hard-fought game, mostly, of a forward nature, ended without further score. Jackman, a visiting player, was-sent tx> hospital with a fracture of the left leg-. SOUTHLAND SUB-UNIONS BEATEN NELSON, Aug. 18. The Southland combined Sub-Unions team was defeated by Nelson by 13 points to 8 this afternoon in a match chair,acteri-sedi by hard forward -struggling in the first half and a bright, open game) in the second. Terri tori ally, Southland had the better of the game, but the Nelson team were more dangerous and had more finish. FIJI BEATS AUCKLAND UNIVERSITY. (Australian Tress Association.) SUVA. Aug. 18. A Fiji Rugby fifteen defeated Auckland University at Albert Park -by 12 points to three.. The local players were superior in all deoartmontls, though they averaged I2lb s -lighter.
