Mi-, and Mrs. B. McCarthy left by the express this morning for Wellington to join the steamer there for Australia. A passenger by this morning’s train was Mrs. J. Fitzgerald, who will spend some time in Sydney. Mr B. McCarthy, president of the •Unworn Trotting Club, .who is on the eve of departure for Sydney on a holiday trip, was the subject, of. several folilions speeches last evening, members extending him their good wlsfiiCs for a good trip and a safe return. | At the Hawera Trotting •Club’s meeting last evening, eulogistic reference was made la the excellent service rendered to the club by the secretary, •Mr E. P. 'Cox, who Was accorded a hearty vote of thanks and appreciation. Mr. and Mrs. J. A. Bell and their two children left by train tliisi morning on route to the Old Country, where they will in future live, settling at Leeds. Mr. Bell, who has been m the railway service for some years, was injured some time ago, and decidedl to rotire. on superannuation. He was married in England after the wfl»r, and ihis wife belonged to or Itshire. A Press Association message from Sydney states that Anglican circles were excited at the announcement •made yesterday of the engagement of Rev. Darcy Irvine, Bishop-Coadjutor of the diocese of Sydney, to Mi : ss Angus, of Neutral Bay, who was an intimate friend of the late Mrs Darcy Irvine, who died fourteen months ago. The Rev. Air Irvine, who Was born in IS'62, is an outstanding figure, in Anglican c-hureh life of New (South Wales.
