MISSING FOR FIVE WEEKS.
WOMAN’S BODY RECOVERED.
THE MANAWAPOU ACCIDENT. The body of Mrs MeCallum, who was lost in the Maninvapou River about five weeks ago. when a ear containing herself and her luisbaiid went, over the bank off the Main South Road, was recovered at 12.45 pan. to-day bv a police party under the 'charge of Sergeant Henry at a spot about 220 yards from the spot where the ear entered the water.,
The river was running very full today after the recent rain, and Sergeant Henry, who had been of opinion that the body o'f the missing woman could not be far distant from the spot where she was presumed to have been drowned, m'adc arrangements for a fre'sh search. The body was found on the surface, held up by a ,snag, thus substantiating the theory that it had been held underneath the debris which had been brought down by previous floods. It is understood that an inquest will be opened before the district coroner, Mr. J. S. Barton, to-morrow.
