OUTBREAK AT CHILDREN ’S HOME (3y Telegraph—Press Association.) WELLINGTON, Aug. 14. _ The Levin Memorial Homo for children at Berhampore was the scene of an outbreak of fire early this morning. The premises are owned by the Wellington Ladies’ Christian Association. The kitchen and playroom with their contents were severely damaged. Two bedrooms also suffered somewhat, also the dining room. The cause of the outbreak is unknown. The insurances were £3IOO on the building and £SOO on the contents. HOMESTEAD DESTROYED. WAIMATE, Aug. 14. “T© Waimate,” the homestead residence of E. C. Studholme, two miles from Waimate, was destroyed by fire this morning. The occupants, a governess, and tlie maids escaping safely. Mr and Mrs Studholme were absent in Christchurch. The house and furniture' are believed to be insured for an amount in the vicinity of £6OOO. The homestead was linked with the early history of the district, the_ first building erected on the estate being a small cottage built in 1854 by Messrs John and Raul Studholme.
