MANAIA.
(From Our Own Correspondent.)
The meeting held in Mantua Town Hall last evening for the purpose of purchasing a new sot of instruments for the Mamin Municipal Brass Band was very poorly attended, owing to the inclemency of the weather. Colonel Sutherland was voted to the chair. The secretary of the hand (Mr. Robertson) produced quotations for a Besson Class A silver-plated contesting set, all with leather cases, winch has been offered to the band for less than half-price', but the. offer was only open for confirmation for a fortnight. It was resolved that another meeting of the’ public be held next Tuesday, at 8 p.m., in the Town Hall, and all ladies interested were especially invited to attend. The object of the meeting is to organise a queen carnival, and in the meantime it was decided to circularise every resident asking for financial help, if not a donation a loan, so that the. band could secure the set. A hearty vote of thanks was passed to Colonel Sutherland for occupying the chair.
